the area
The villa is a 5 minute drive from the town of Moraira. It is an attractive town with no ugly high rise buildings and beautiful landscaping – even on the roundabouts! There is a good selection of supermarkets, banks, shops and restaurants. On a Friday there is an extensive market and there is also a fish market near the sea front. The marina area and sea front are both lovely.
As well as the main beach in Moraira, there is a smaller, attractive beach (nearest one to the villa – 3 minutes’ drive away) called El Portet, which has two good restaurants.
Along the coast are many pretty coves which are worth exploring, plus the larger resorts of Javea and Denia. Javea is split into the old town and the port/beach area, both of which are worth a visit. Denia has many stylish shops, an attractive old town and if you would like to nip over to the Balearics, ferries depart from Denia on a regular basis. Altea is an attractive town, with very pretty streets and a lovely church in the old part, an attractive promenade and a good selection of shops in the newer part.
For long, sandy stretches of beach, you can’t beat Oliva and Gandia, which are up towards Valencia and very popular with the Spanish.
The nearby towns of Teulada and Benissa have interesting back streets and good places to eat and Gata de Gorges is famous for its wicker, which abounds in most shops.
Inland there is stunning mountain scenery and many beauty spots – the Jalon Valley, Montgo Natural Park, Guadalest and the Fonts Algar. Valencia and Alicante are only an hour away and have a wealth of culture and places of interest to visit.
